Welcome
Spring with the
Scintillating sounds
of Milton Concert
Band
Milton,
Ontario – At 8
p.m. on Saturday,
April 12, 2008 at
St. Paul’s United
Church in Milton,
the Milton Concert
Band offers an
exciting mix of
popular favourites
and innovative
selections in their
Spring Concert.
Milton
Concert Band returns
to St. Paul’s
United Church for
their first concert
of 2008.
According
to Band President
Angela Rozario,
“We had such an
overwhelmingly
positive response to
the band, the
location and our
guest performers at
our Christmas
Concert, that we
wanted to keep what
worked while
offering a selection
of music which is as
fresh and
invigorating as
Spring itself.”
Now
in its second year
of operation, the
band has jelled into
a well balanced and
exciting ensemble.
One of the
things that set this
group apart from
traditional concert
bands is their
repertoire.
Musical
Director, Joseph
Resendes promises to
impart his own
unique influences
into the band’s
performances.
Mr. Resendes
explains, “Many
North American
Concert Bands have a
similar repertoire.
While
exciting and well
loved selections
from Broadway, Big
Band, Classical and
Contemporary North
American Composers
will always be a
part of our musical
offerings, I am able
to draw on my
cultural background
to introduce some
very innovative
European works.
We want to
feature talented
composers who fuse
the best of their
historical musical
traditions with
modern rhythms and
tastes.” The result of this fusion is a program which features
pieces like
“Chorus Line”,
“Olympic
Fanfare” (Theme
from the 1984 Los
Angeles Olympics)
and “Suite in E
flat” (which was
one of the first
true Concert Band
pieces ever written)
with other
selections like
“La Storia” by
Dutch composer,
Jacob de Haan that
showcase the type of
European music which
the band is
exploring.
The
band prides itself
on injecting each
selection with a
great deal of
emotion which allows
them to communicate
the story behind the
notes.
“We’ve
worked so hard to
breathe life into
each piece, that
we’re thrilled to
be returning to St.
Paul’s United
Church for this
performance as the
church’s acoustics
will truly enhance
our efforts.” Said
Angela Rozario.
The
St. Paul’s United
Church Senior Choir
collaborated with
the band on their
Christmas Concert.
The results
were a delight for
all involved.
Eager to
repeat the
experience, the
choir will once
again be joining the
band for their
Spring Concert.
This time
around the choir’s
program will feature
light spirituals and
gospel music.
