MILTON CONCERT BAND STRIKES A CHORD
Feb. 26, 2007
Milton, Ontario - New Halton region Concert Band allows area amateur musicians the chance to put their talents to use for the good
of the community. Prospective members are invited to join the band at their regular rehearsal time on Thursday from 8 - 10pm.
The band is especially interested in hearing from percussion, lower bass and woodwind players.
On a cold February evening in the meeting room of an ice rink, the inaugural members of the Milton Concert Band met for the first
time. One of the Band's Co-founders, Karen Sexton, describes that evening. "It was really interesting to watch the expressions on
people's faces during that first rehearsal. Each person looked excited but a little uncertain of what they were getting themselves
in for. Everyone was pretty quite while we introduced the Founders and our Conductor but once we began to play - the smiles broke
out and we knew we had something special."
"Considering everyone was seeing the music for the first time, I think everyone was pleasantly surprised by the group's sound.
I guess the best
testament to our success was that everyone showed up for the second rehearsal! This group has unlimited potential
and everyone is really excited about what we can do in this community." Exclaims Angela Rozario, President and Co-founder.
"In fact, we've already booked our first performance, June 9th at the Milton 150th Street Festival."
With just one month of rehearsals under their belt, the band has already started to form a cohesive group. Blessed with a core of
seasoned musicians and hard working newcomers, the band is quickly shaping into a versatile musical ensemble with a varied
repertoire. "It's fabulous that so many strangers can come together and mesh so well, both musically and socially, so fast.
Everyone is working really hard and going out of their way to create something we can be proud of. I've played with several
community bands over the years, and feel lucky to have found this group. I can't wait for Thursday evening to come around."
states Burlington resident and Tuba player, Brad Yhard.
The band rehearses every Thursday from 8 - 10pm. They have yet to find a
permanent place to practice, but encourages anyone
interested in joining them to contact the band's e-mail or phone number for the current location. The band is especially
interested in hearing from percussion, trombone, baritone and
French horn players.
Comprised mainly of amateur musicians from all over Halton Region, the band's mission is to provide Milton and area residents
with an opportunity to enjoy and perform great music right here in their own community. The group plays a wide variety of music
from Broadway to Big Band, Classical to Contemporary. Interested musicians should contact the band at
