MCB History

A short history of
Milton Concert Band

The ensemble began taking shape early in 2007, when recently arrived residents and long-time friends Angela Rozario and Cheryl Ciccarelli, having recognized the growing artistic community in Milton, decided to put a call out to see if there were any other area amateur musicians interested in performing together. Their hopes were immediately met and the pair was soon scrambling to accommodate over 30 musicians and having to put others on a waiting list. Working with the town of Milton, the group was able to move to its new permanent home at Memorial Arena in September 2007 and have been able to welcome even more musicians into the fold.

During the first year of operation, the band performed before over 1200 people. Their first performance was at Milton’s 150th Anniversary Street Festival in June 2007 and the momentum has kept growing. In 2008 the band introduced the MCB Swing Ensemble which has begun to perform both in tandem with the larger concert band and in feature performances of their own.

Blessed with a core of seasoned musicians, hardworking newcomers and under the superb direction of conductor Sheena Nykoliaszyn, the band has quickly shaped into a versatile musical ensemble with a varied repertoire. The band performs regularly in and around Milton, Ontario. Their performance schedule includes appearances at Senior’s Centres, Community festivals and events, parades, 2 ticketed shows per year and a free summer series at the Victoria Park Gazebo.
